Summary

When an acclaimed author dies at the Regency Grand Hotel, it's up to a fastidious maid to uncover the truth, no matter how dirty—in a standalone novel featuring Molly Gray, from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Maid, a Good Morning America Book Club Pick。

Molly Gray is not like anyone else。 With her flair for cleaning and proper etiquette, she has risen through the ranks of the glorious five-star Regency Grand Hotel to become the esteemed Head Maid。 But just as her life reaches a pinnacle state of perfection, her world is turned upside down when J。D。 Grimthorpe, the world-renowned mystery author, drops dead—very dead—on the hotel’s tea room floor。

When Detective Stark, Molly's old foe, investigates the author’s unexpected demise, it becomes clear that this death was murder most foul。 Suspects abound, and everyone wants to who killed J。D。 Grimthorpe? Was it Lily, the new Maid-in-Training? Or was it Serena, the author’s secretary? Could Mr。 Preston, the hotel’s beloved doorman, be hiding something? And is Molly really as innocent as she seems?

As the case threatens the hotel’s pristine reputation, Molly knows she alone holds the key to unlocking the killer's identity。 But that key is buried deep in her past—because long ago, she knew J。D。 Grimthorpe。 Molly begins to comb her memory for clues, revisiting her childhood and the mysterious Grimthorpe mansion where she and her dearly departed Gran once worked side by side。 With the entire hotel under investigation, Molly must solve the mystery post-haste。 If there's one thing Molly knows for sure, it's that dirty secrets don't stay buried forever。。。

I loved that Molly had more confidence in this book and that we learned more about her personal story and family, but I wish Juan Manuel had been included instead of off visiting his family。

Michelle

Equally as entertaining and riveting as the first。

Meh, I got bored quickly。 Didn’t have the hook I look for in a book。

So fun to read and definitely worth if you read the first one。 Some characters just felt undeveloped / 2D

3。5 stars - I feel similarly to this book as I did the first one 。。 which is to say that Molly Gray is fun and quirky and is a well-written neurodivergent character, but the story itself in this book is just so-so。 I am not a big fan of “mysteries” (but like thriller/suspense) and that could be why, I suppose。 It seems likely that a third book will be written and I’ll probably read it - just because it’s different enough to be worth giving a shot hahaDo want to note that I listened to this as an 3。5 stars - I feel similarly to this book as I did the first one 。。 which is to say that Molly Gray is fun and quirky and is a well-written neurodivergent character, but the story itself in this book is just so-so。 I am not a big fan of “mysteries” (but like thriller/suspense) and that could be why, I suppose。 It seems likely that a third book will be written and I’ll probably read it - just because it’s different enough to be worth giving a shot hahaDo want to note that I listened to this as an audiobook and the person who narrated it did a 10/10 job。 Super well done。 Great voices and audio-acting 。。 not just reading。 。。。more

Love Molly the Maid。 I liked the first one better。 But this one was very entertaining

This was a fun and easy read。 I found it a lot more charming since I already knew the main character, Molly, and was used to her quirks。 It was not nearly as cringy as the first one, and I thought Molly’s neurodivergence was represented in a more positive, endearing way in this installment。

I received this book in a giveaway from goodreads。 What an amazing book。 In my imagination I saw everything as I was reading。 Very well written。 Looking forward to reading other books。 Highly recommended to read

sweet and satisfying mysteryAnother great story about Molly the Maid who in her own quirky way solves the murder of a famous author。 Quick and uplifting read about how our abnormalities that seem so absurd when we are younger turn into our strengths as we age。

Aww, a chance to hear from Molly the maid again。 A delightful, quick read。

Maid Molly is back to solve another crime with her unique perspective and intuition skills。 I loved 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐌𝐀𝐈𝐃 and was thrilled to receive an advanced copy of 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐌𝐘𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐘 𝐆𝐔𝐄𝐒𝐓 from Penguin Canada。 I really can't speak highly enough of this series- there's something about Molly that just tugs at my heartstrings。 How certain things are so obvious to her, but how oblivious she is about other things。。。 how she doesn't hold people's mistakes against them but also quietly and powerfully takes a stand w Maid Molly is back to solve another crime with her unique perspective and intuition skills。 I loved 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐌𝐀𝐈𝐃 and was thrilled to receive an advanced copy of 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐌𝐘𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐘 𝐆𝐔𝐄𝐒𝐓 from Penguin Canada。 I really can't speak highly enough of this series- there's something about Molly that just tugs at my heartstrings。 How certain things are so obvious to her, but how oblivious she is about other things。。。 how she doesn't hold people's mistakes against them but also quietly and powerfully takes a stand when people she cares about have been wronged。 She's simple, but she's also oh so complex。At less than 300 pages and with short chapters, I binged this book in one sitting。 This sequel lived up to my expectations and more, pulling pieces from Molly's past as they connect her to another murder。 I hope this isn't the last we see from Maid Molly! So grab a latte and snuggle up with this excellent, layered, cozy mystery。 。。。more

What was fresh in the first book got a little stale in this one。 I did like learning about Molly as a child and her relationship with her Gram。 Also Detective Stark finally “got” Molly and started to appreciate her despite Molly’s quirks。 I’m curious to see where Ms Prose takes the next book。

This sequel was not as good as the first。 Too much history with her gran in the role of maid and confidante to a wayward author。 This could have been a whole other story focused on the bizarre authors anomalies and dis function。

Brandi Johnson

I might have liked this one better than the first。

Just the kind of book that I needed this week。。you pretty much know how it will end, but boy do you enjoy getting there! Love Molly!

A fantastic thriller! The Mystery Guest gripped me all the way to the end。 Prose has a real talent for making you guess and for the unexpected twist。

Remember The Maid? Slightly awkward but intelligent and observant, Molly the Maid was aided by friends she didn't even know she had in book 1, but in Mystery Guest, she's a bit more confident and works on solving the murder of a speaker in her dear boutique hotel。 All of her friends, including dear deceased grandmother, assist or are on the fringes。 Book concludes with Holly being encouraged to consider a new profession。 Remember The Maid? Thank you to NetGalley + Ballantine Books for this ARC in exchange for my honest review。Molly the Maid is back and once again finds herself smack dab in the middle of a murder investigation。 When a critically acclaimed mystery author drops dead on the tea room floor at the Regency Grand Hotel, it's up to Molly to uncover the true nature of his death — and who is guilty of murder。 I liked this story, though I definitely enjoyed the first installment of this series more。 I know it was necessary fo Thank you to NetGalley + Ballantine Books for this ARC in exchange for my honest review。Molly the Maid is back and once again finds herself smack dab in the middle of a murder investigation。 When a critically acclaimed mystery author drops dead on the tea room floor at the Regency Grand Hotel, it's up to Molly to uncover the true nature of his death — and who is guilty of murder。 I liked this story, though I definitely enjoyed the first installment of this series more。 I know it was necessary for the plot, but I'm not the biggest fan of going back and forth between tenses every chapter and it tends to leave me feeling like I'm reading two different stories。I also thought the 'twist' at the end with the doorman was mediocre at best。 It was pretty obvious if you've read the first book that he and Molly's grandmother were an item, so it only makes sense that his desire to protect her and be close to her comes from having a deeper connection than just coworkers。 Overall, I did enjoy getting to solve another murder with Molly and I appreciate the thought and care that goes into writing a character who is clearly, at least to me, neurodivergent。 I think as a society, we're quick to judge those who don't appear 'normal' and I like the way that Molly's circle of people interact with her。 They never make her feel less than, and even the detective softens and sees the value in who she is — exactly as she is。 It's proof that while we may all be different, we are the same at our core and our differences should be celebrated, not mocked。 。。。more
